Thermal Imaging Camera MSA Evolution
5200 Thermal Imaging Camera. This equipment detects infrared energy (heat)
and changes it to light. This allows firefighters to "see" in smoke filled
environments. This camera was acquired through a federal grant by Yates
County Office of Emergency Management. It is on loan and was assigned to the
Middlesex Fire District in June 2008.

Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA)
MSA Firehawk M7 SCBA with 4500psi 30 minute
cylinders. These SCBAs were purchased in June 2008 after the fire department was awarded a
Department of
Homeland Security Assistance to Firefighters Grant. |

Breathing Air Fill Station /
Cascade Eagle Safestation X2 NFPA Class 2 breathing air fill
station and 6 bottle 6000psi cascade. This is used to
refill SCBA cylinders with breathing air. This equipment was purchased in
June 2008 after the fire department was awarded a
Department of
Homeland Security Assistance to Firefighters Grant. |

Hurst Tool
Also known as the Jaws of Life. These tools are used
to remove victims entrapped in severe motor vehicle crashes. |

Tensioned Buttress Struts /
Jacks Res-Q-Jack rescue struts. These tools are used to
stabilize and lift vehicles involved in rollover crashes while entrapped
victims are removed. These jacks were placed in service in December 2008.

ATV
Currently the fire department operates a 1987 Honda
Big Red ATC. We are in the process of seeking grant funds for replacement of
this vehicle. |

Cutter Edge Demolition Saw
The cutters edge saw is a high performance chainsaw
with a special chain and guard for use in firefighting operations. In 2007
we received a New York State DEC Forestry grant that paid for half the cost
of this saw. |

Medical Equipment / AED
The department is dispatched to all requests for
ambulance service within the the Middlesex Fire District. Responding
firefighters are trained to administer life saving interventions with Basic
Life Support equipment and Lifepak 500 AED before the arrival of the
ambulance. |

Multi-Gas Detector
When responding to CO detector activations and odor of
gas calls, the department uses this MSA Orion multi-gas detector. The
detector is capable of measuring levels of oxygen, carbon monoxide, and
combustible gas. |

Large Diameter Hose (LDH)
Here we show the hose bed configuration on our first
out
Engine 16.
The second bed (middle) shows 1000 feet of 5" LDH.
Large Diameter Hose is able to achieve very large flows of water easily. It
it mostly used to supply water to a truck. |

Extra Hose Rolls
Engines usually carry extra hose lengths in rolls.
On the top shelf here we have two rolls of 1"
forestry hose, a 25 foot roll of 3", and a 50 foot roll of 3".
On the bottom shelf we have a 25 foot roll and a 50
foot roll of 5" LDH. Here we can see the LDH couplings. |

Task Force Tips
Blitzfire This is a quick attack step gun
used to flow large volumes of water quickly. The Blitzfire is capable of
flowing volumes is excess of 500 gallons per minute. Used affectively and
with a sufficient supply of water, it can knock a large volume of fire down
quickly. |
